• To have a better understanding of both Technical and Scientific translation.

One of the most important concepts is to have a better understanding of both terms. Also one must see both sides to this issue. One must have an understanding of various methods used to translate and see which one works best. Not only that see that technical translation concept is spreading and to still use technical translation concept. Most importantly to never have too much confidence on just relying the software entirely.

 

• It is strong suggested to heavily rely on Human Translation.

In this day and age where people rely pretty much on technology just about everything. One must remember that technology still has a long way to go in order to have human capabilities. The computer may have abilities that people don't have, but computers has its own limits. People's language, concept, and terms keeps changing as time goes on that soft wares are unable to catch up.Not only human translation is most effective, but also effective training one to become better translators.

 

• Address the current methods of both technical and scientific translation to meet today’s standards.

Still to this day the methods that people use are out of date. Companies and international corporations have not mandated for the methods to be updated. So therefore people are pretty much on their own when it comes to which method to apply. The scientific translation methods should meet of the standard of today's technical translation method. People should come together and see which method works the best, by either using a combination of both technical and scientific translation method.

 

• Train newly hired technical translator applicants.

It is not a requirement for businesses to train applicants. So therefore applicants are pretty much on their own when it comes to learning. Companies should establish programs in which to train technical translators how, when, and which method to use when translating. It should be only recommended for a company to provide programs and places to train newly applied applicants. A company should consider training the most effective and efficient way as possible while watching their own budget.

 

• Understand the psychology of translation.

As previously explained one must at least grasp the theory behind translation in psychology. It has based on how the translation process works and how computers fail use the same principles as humans do. It also shows how one thinks that one has already fully understood the translation when it has not. Also see how the computer uses some of the pshycology but has a limited understanding. With gaining an understanding in translation in psychology one will know which method to apply.

 

• Have realistic expectations when it comes to technical translations

Even though one is fully trained, there is no 100% guarantee that technical translators will not many any errors. Fully trained technical translators will make mistakes but in smaller instinces. Still to this day there is a lot research to be done based methods of translation. So therefore texts will not be error free. Technical and Scientific translators still have a long way to go in terms of providing the latest and most effective methods to translate.

 



Costs and Success

 

• Companies tend to at least provide computer non-human training courses.

One of the reasons why companies tend to provide effective training course is because of priority. International corporations don't consider training its employees when it comes to international business deals. Companies are known to hire workers overseas since it's least costly. Companies these days are saving more money especially when the economy is bad. So therefore companies just simply provide either online courses or software translation program.

 

 

• At times  time companies do not provide any  learning courses.

There companies are not required to provide any learning courses to newly applied applicants. Companies tend to focus more on efficiency so therefore simply just have applicants learn translation from a computer program.

 

• Computer non-human training courses are the lest successful.

It has been shown for the past fifteen years or so that soley relying on translation software is the most inneffective way of improvement. Translation software cannot keep up with storing memory of new meanings. Also a software does not have the same human ablity to translate different meaning texts.

 

• Both Oral and Lecture translation courses are the most successful.

It has been shown the most successful traning method is applying both combinations of Oral and Lecture translation. People tend to learn it by both seeing and hearing it. Plus there's human internation, rather than interating with a computer. That is one of the proven methods that helps people to become better technical translators. The most succesful translators have the most human interaction.

 

 

• It costs the company more providing effective training courses.

 

Dispite the benefits it is more costly for the company to provide effective training courses to it's employees. The companies should take into consideration that the benefits of training technical translators out weight the risks. What this means is that well trained technical translators are less likely to make mistakes. To date companies have not yet conducted studies based on the effectiveness of how technical translators should be trained. So therefore all of the observations are independent.

Marketing Issues

  

• Companies tend to hire inexperienced and or unqualified technical translators.
 

Most companies would not give a second thought about hiring experienced technical translators. Also they don't see technical translators as something to be heavily relayed upon. A large number of inexperienced and untrained technical translators are recruited. The reason that untrained translators make up a large number because its more cost efficient for the company to hire them.

 

• Advantages: it is least costly and convenient.
Companies tend to hire inexperienced employees of all positions especially technical translators. The companies half of the time don't offer training courses to it's employees since it's more efficient.Often times corporations doing international business deals tend to cut costs on things that matter less such as training it's employees.

 

 

• Disadvantages: can mislead consumers, that often leads to legal actions.

 It costs the company more loss in revenues than investing it on training course programs. It has been shown many times when a company does not carefully train a technical translator careless mistakes tend to happen. The figure as shown above shows what can happen when a translator miss translates a company's slogan. Sometimes the outcome of translating a fraze into a foreign language can send the wrong message.Therefore it would be offensive, in that foreign culture.

 

• Cost the companies millions of dollars in lost revenue.
 
Companies invest a lot of money before establishing international businesses. A company always expects to generate a lot of revenue after investing money in opening it's doors overseas. That's not always the case, an example would be GM chevrolet. GM had introduced the Chevy Nova model in Latin America. For the first few years GM executives could not explain the poor rates of selling until one of the translators pointed out that "Nova" translates into "No Go" in Spanish. That is when GM executives changed the Chevy Nova's model name.

It is a software designed behind using the concept of Scientif translation. It follows behind a theroy that its possible that computer software with advanced memory, can act like a human when it comes to translation. That is true only to a certian extent, because translating foriegn humor, jokes, expression does not always end up right. A language structure keeps changing as well as expression and humor. So therefore a software can not keep up as a human can.

 

 

It always does not exactly translate text accurately.

The computer software stores memory for that particular text. It is a problem when the software useds that same text meaning to translate a similar text with a different meaning. This is true for languages that do not have words that would translate the same meaning in English for example the word "cool". Example "That new car that you've bought looks pretty cool".

 

Does not follow the concept of this so called “Theory of Translation”.

 

 

The concept behind Scientific Translation has proposed this so called "Theroy of Translation". Behind this theroy it is a process in which the human brain does when it comes to translationing tests. People have proposed that software can act the same way as the figure shown above. But that is not the case. The Language Service Providor does not totally follow with this concept. No matter how update the software is it will still lack this process of transation.

 It is a process of translation in which involves humans translating.

 

It involves human translation, where people are the ones who decide which term gets to be translated. In other words people use dictionaries, uses creativity, and knowledge to translate. Also technical translation places emphasis on people doing the job translating rather than using computer, or software as an aid to translation. People tend to have a hard time understanding when it is not considered human translation with a help of technology being a software is involved. People tend to think that it is more efficient to have a state-of-the-art software do all the translating. Well that is not the case in most cases. Despite the technical advances soft wares still lack human knowledge when it comes to translation.

 

 

 

 

 

Scientific translation:

 

It involves a theory and device or machine to translate.



People fail to see when using different means of technology to translate is not considered human translation. The reason for that is people tend to consider simple things such as using google translation to be human translation since a human is involved. Well that is not the case in most instances. Today there is a huge dissagreement in regards when it is considred not human translation. When one relys only a transaltion software to translate it is considered Scientific translation. Whereas on who uses software to just double check its somewhat considred Technical translation but not totally.

 



Common myths about Technical Translation

Is only a matter of knowing technical texts, and terms.

 

 

 

It is really crusial that the technical translator to have a strong understanding of terms used to translate. People tend to make false assumption that translating is all a matter of finding the exact translated text in a dictionary. Well that is not the case most of the time. Also a technical translator needs to know how to express a foreign text clearly, in the right way in which it makes sense to that forign particular foriegn language. Technical translators much have a knowledge of that particular language that their planing to translate in order to make correct sentence structure.

 

 

Text style is totally irrelevant, when it comes to translation.

 

It really does matter what type of style a technical translator choose to translation. It is really important to have a clarity based on sentence structure. This is one of the problems where technical translators face when a test of a specific international company fails because it lacks correct choice of terms, sentence structure, quality, espeically clarity.

 

Creativity is not needed.

 

Translating another language is not all about knowing the exact translation of words. Translating words of foriegn language is a process which require creativity in order to give the exact intended meaning of that particular foriegn texts.That is especially true in regards to humor, and jokes.Not only that it requires for one to be adapted different cultural aspects, and not hold cultural bias.Also technical translators face certian situations when a term or fraze,that exists in the English language, does not exist in that foreign language.

 

 

Technical translators do not require specialty.

 

 

It is important to keep in mind that no matter how well trained technical translators are there is no guarantee, being a master in all technical translating aspects. But one can train really
well in order to make fewer mistakes and become more sucessful. One example involves electronics and exchanging the lastest technological information. COmpanies have this false assumption that translation is simple so for they hire someone besides a professional translator to trasnlate manuals, especially safety manuals. Not only that it requres someone with a good research skills, along with a creative writing style background.
